Hi. My name is Dale Reeves and I am a the owner and operator of Delano’s Edge Blade Sharpening service in Montgomery, AL. I have been sharpening blades for many years and started sharpening professionally in 2012. I was a land surveyor for a major architectural/engineering/surveying firm in Montgomery for 13yrs and it was quite often that we could be found outside of our work truck sharpening our machetes with a file before going into the woods. (No, I don’t still sharpen with a file!) It took quite a while to learn how to get it sharp enough to cut right and even longer to learn how to put the right angle on the edge so that it wouldn’t be dull after only an hour of cutting line through the woods! Well I’ve come a long way since then! I’m well known by friends and family to be a “nit-picker” or perfectionist, which worked out well for me. I was never quite satisfied sharpening a machete with a file but I knew that would have to do at work. But at home I became more and more interested in different grades of steel and the many sharpening techniques and equipment that exist today. I wanted to perfect my sharpening skills!

Many sharpeners out there will say that the equipment and technique that they use is the only correct way to sharpen and that if a sharpener uses something different, lets say belt sanders, they will ruin your knife! And when each sharpener has different equipment and technique; it made it hard to figure out what’s what in the sharpening world. It has taken me a lot of studying, many different tools and types of sharpening equipment, and plenty of trial and error to get to were I am now!

Here is the truth of the matter. There are plenty of excellent sharpeners out there that will return your blade to you in very similar quality of workmanship, but each one may use different equipment and have developed there own technique! On the flip side of the coin; there are sharpeners out there that will put your chefs knife to a belt sander and (not paying attention to what they are doing) will ruin your blade by letting it get to hot (known as de tempering the blade) or grinding too much steel off which will shorten the life of your blade!

I have my own style and utilize different types of powered sharpening systems. I also sharpen by hand for customers that have special or custom knives and I am also capable of customizing the angle and/or polish on the edge. I’m not limited to just kitchen, hunting, and fishing knives. I also sharpen scissors, chisels, axes, pruning shears, and much more. And yes, land surveyors, I sharpen machetes! We provide precision blade sharpening services to Montgomery, Prattville and Wetumpka, AL. We also provide blade sharpening nationwide through our online, mail-in blade sharpening service!
